I've got my iOpener guts pulled out of their case and
placed into the hollowed-out case of a WYSE-60 terminal.
I got the WYSE case on eBay for about 9 bucks in great
condition. I have a WYSE still, but it's at my mother's
house in another state... someday I'll retrieve it.
Anyway, the iOpener's internal chasis fits perfectly
into the front of the WYSE case. The screen isn't quite
as large as the WYSE's was, which is saying something,
as those screens are tiny compared to today's computers.
A black plastic bezel solves that. Plenty of room inside
for goodies.
Only other trouble was the front buttons on the iOpener.
Not at all condusive to the WYSE setup. Simple solution
was to buy a scanner (found an old Mustek at a thrift
shop for a buck) and hope it had a similar ribbon cable.
As it happened, the scanner I pulled apart had both a
piece of black plastic for the Bezel, and an exact match
for the ribbon cable, but in about a 15" length. Pow.
I'll have to put some pictures up here at some point,
but the build isn't done. I want to drill some holes in
the side of the WYSE and 3D print some buttons to
control the contrast, volume, and power on the iOpener.
Right now I have to reach in the back to power the
thing up.
Anyway, now I have a WYSE-esque iOpener that I can use
as a simple terminal. It has the IDE mod (read mods.txt
in this folder) and 256mb of ram, running Debian Jessie.
Not too shabby for what it is.
