I'm in the subway. Today is the 30th of November. It's worth to say
that in Poland today's night is the Saint Andrew's Eve. [1] Polish name
is "Andrzejki" from name "Andrzej" which means Andrew. As it's written
on Wikipedia "The main ceremony involved pouring hot wax from a candle
through the hole in a key into cold water.". I don't know why they
haven't written more. The cold wax is used to cast a wax shape shadow.
People are trying to guess the future from that what they will see in a
shadow shape. It's of course mainly an activity for younger people or
children. But sometimes the day is used as the magical date (the magic
symbols as the key) and that fortune telling is taken seriously by
older.

It's the Saint Nicholas Day. In Poland that day children are getting
small gifts. There are many customs but in my home they are po packed
into shoes. Because December is a winter month, and it should be full
of snow, so the boots will be high leather boots. Shoes must be clean
and polished. Children don't usually clean their shoes, but that day I
remember the smell of the polish and the brushing.
I also remember my gifts given on that day. They were small enough to
fit a shoe. I've got the first small LEGO set once.

I'm walking on an escalator. Like in every right-hand traffic country
people are leaving left side of an escalator for people in hurry. I'm
not in a hurry. But I like to walk.
It's worth to say that in countries left-hand traffic people are
leaving the opposite side. So tourists sometimes are blocking a smooth
movement.
My colleague said once that people who are climbing an escalator was
the strangest thing for him in the big city. And it could be true.

It was a tough day. The weather was quite pleasing. Several degrees
below zero and a sun behind clouds. The commute was also not
irritating. The whole day in the office I spent on a technical project
for a client. I was gathering every arrangements did for past several
weeks and I made an estimated cost of work. While going home I picked
up a packages from a parcel locker. At the end of the day I had 255
kcal. Today I'm planning to go the bed earlier also.

I'm on my way to the office. During breakfast my son asked about
computers. I've answered about programming languages. He wanted to know
what does it mean. I said that there are many languages and for example
you can use PRINT to print something on the screen. My son thanked a
while and he responded - so I can PRINT "Villagers" and computer will
print villagers (he was talking about Minecraft). And then I could
print everything.
So he will invent a function parameters for himself.

It's still a sunny day. We are on a walk to the chocolate factory. It's
located in the city. Near the factory is the chocolate company's shop,
where you can buy a hot chocolate drink. Today is rather chilly so this
beverage will fit the weather.

We are back home. We've seen many grumpy children. Our son also has a
worse moments. But he was entertaining himself outside without any
incentives. He was running and playing Star Wars trooper.

I'm drinking a beer. Today I've served myself the Baltic Porter style
beer. It's said that it is the only one beer style which comes from
here (Baltics countries). And the best Baltic Porters are made in
Poland. The rest of Polish beer styles are lost during history. Even
that the beer was popular here. Partitions of Poland had an enormous
impact on Poles. As it turned out, it also depended on what kind of
beer they drank. Now the most popular beer style in Poland is Lager.
The most popular beer origin are Germany, Czech and Belgium.
There is also the original Polish style called Grodziskie beer. It's a
specific beer which is called a Polish champagne. It is a very light
beer with a watery taste and a smoky aftertaste. People who don't like
it laugh that it's the taste of water after cooking sausages. For those
who taste it, it actually resembles champagne and they praise that the
beer quenches thirst. But this style isn't popular. It's a niche called
craft beers.

I didn't write anything yesterday evening because I had been watching
/Legends of the Fall/. I like such oldies.
I don't know if it's a world wide extraordinary thing but most of films
have a Polish translation of film titles. So /Legends of the Fall/ had
been translated to /Winds of Passion/. The most known translation is
/Die Hard/ which had been translated to /Glass Trap/. And then
producers had made the next four parts where there isn't any glass at
all.

The late espresso. I'm buying a more expensive coffee beans again.
Cheaper beans wasn't worth their price. Coffee pot was gurgling slowly.
I've poured liquid into obligatory small espresso cup. Then a bit of
sugar, which is a crime on my beans but I like to drink. I'm calling it
as the /dolce/ - dessert in Italian.

I'm in a subway. I'm reading Phlog-roll, Bongusta and my Personal Soap
Opera Phlog. It should be called PSOP?
Three months ago I started everyday PSOPing. Sometimes it's easier to
write and sometimes its need a lot of effort. But I managed to do it
regularly for 90 days.
The main topic as far are:
- weather
- my commute
- office hardships
- my family life, especially what I've been doing with my son
- local customs and what it could be totally different in Poland to
other countries

A ticket inspector in a subway. It isn't common and I didn't met them
for several months here.
He caught a mom with a about five years old son. She start talking to
make the situation more comfortable for her. But her son start also
talking and his words suggest that she was aware of an invalidated
ticket. Child always helps.
Sometimes I think that in a large city, where tickets are subsidized
and relatively cheap, organizing institutions to control tickets does
not bring anything.

There were freezing all day on Wednesday. But today temperature went up
to almost eight degrees. In the morning all pavements were slippery. In
the evening a strong wind began to blow. The weather is crazy.
I've been watching broadcasts from the Sejm (lower house of
parliament). After last election their videoclips are very popular on
YouTube. There are videoclips which has gained 200 000 views in several
hours. People want to be part of parliament works. They want probably
check if their votes are correctly used. I don't know if it is normal
in other countries. In Poland it's a new thing. Earlier it wasn't
trendy to watch the Sejm's transmission. Even that the public tv was
obligated to broadcast them. Watching that in early afternoon time was
an activity for retired people or unemployed ones.
One of the "film" stars is the marshal of the Sejm (Szymon Hołownia) who
is a former TV presenter. He know how to make a good public occurrence.
He is acting like a professional politician. His actions are consistent
and a bit daring. He say that he want to make a parliament act in a
normal way (comparing to the last 8 years). He defeated (in a oratory
way) all political opponents as far. People are fascinated. Veterans of
politics from the opposite sides are sitting with shocked faces. They
can't believed the new situation for them. Because their old populists
tricks and actions aren't working now.

I was reading about Star Wars comics books issued 1977-1982. They are
included in mentioned earlier books I've ordered. The first here is
[1]. I didn't have the knowledge about Expanded Universe aka. Legends
so it takes a while to put in the order in my head. So there are
original comics which now are considered as not canonical. Comics were
issued through decades and were corresponding to different Star Wars
time. So simultaneously there is a timeline of that stories on Star
Wars timeline. Complicated.

I was in a tea shop. Usually I am ordering Darjeeling tea. Today I've
ordered also Oolong tea. I was giving oolongs a try several times. I'm

Today I was on holiday from work. I was maintaining the family matters.
Between that I've sent several packages for my Internet auction
activity. My wardrobe is less crowded from day to day.
The day off helped me to wrote on my Polish blog. I've observed that I
haven't time for that on a working day. And usually the weekend isn't
enough for it.
I've browsed also the small net but without any significant effect.
I've got also a package of a Star Wars comics reprint for my son. They
are the oldest comics which were drawn before the corresponding films
were made. I like such style of drawing. I've checked if it hasn't any
explicit content (nudes or violence) and they are ok. Even they are too
serious for my son's age I will give it to him. He is a fan of Star
Wars but he is mostly looking at low quality comics from LEGO series.
Maybe he will improve his way of drawing when he will see a
professional one. Today is so many trash products.

Another package has been sent on a internet auction. It's new for me. I
will be an Internet auction tycoon.
The day has passed on teleconferences. The longest took more than 2,5
hours. I've tested a new way to do this. I've set up a conference on my
laptop but I've been using a mobile for talking. I was able to avoid
sitting on a chair for all that time. It was the good idea. The mobile
has better microphone and speakers than a laptop.
I'm tired. But I am freezing a Stout beer in a refrigerator. So the
rest of evening I will be pouring and tasting it like a beer sommelier.

We've got up at 7 am because we have doctor visit at 9 am. Everything
has gone well and short after 9 am we have been walking through a
nearby park. Weather was good. It was chilly with a bit of sun. On
trees and on the ground was still white.
We were at home around 10:45. I was in a good mood. Early wake up
sometimes has an enormous positive impact on a whole day. I ground
coffee for espresso. The weather started changing, it was snowing.

On the nearby house roof I've seen black crown which was probably
playing with snow. I've never seen that before. A bird was jumping on
its back and it slid on the wings. It was so similar to children on the
snow. In Poland there is a popular snow play to lay on back and drawing
an eagle by moving legs and hands simultaneously. So the crown was
drawing an eagle.

We've played Minecraft. I hadn't known this game before. But my son
want to play it. We were playing in demo. I wasn't sure what to do. My
son want to find a village. Fortunately I've seen a fire during a
night. It was a villagers village. He was content.

The last night was quite. There was cold outside so we slept well. My
son had woken up in the morning but he had entertained himself. I was
sleeping till 10:30! I don't remember such situation in the last
months.
I've read the news about yesterday football match while I've eaten a
breakfast. Poland didn't advance so people weren't happy.
After 11 we were on a walk. My son had seen the white grass yards a
long before. The snow was too wet for sledging. But we made a small
snowman out of snow. Then we walked on a regular route to the park. It
was snowing with rain all the time.
We've eaten a lunch after 2 pm. There is a new place for a sushi in the
neighborhood. My son likes fishes and sushi. Probably in Japan it's
normal but in Poland isn't the same. We are ordering cooked fish for
him. It's the preferred way for children in his age in Poland. I prefer
a raw fish and an original sushi (hosomaki and nigiri) rather than
California rolls).
The rest of the day I've spent on doing a small shopping in grocery.
The Saturday almost passed.

Today's weather forecast is right. It's snowing from about eleven
o'clock. It isn't white yet but it's said that it will be snowing all
night. It's possible that we will go for a sled tomorrow. The weather
forecast predicts the temperature around zero in the morning.
Today there was a football match in Warsaw. We were around the National
Stadium for a walk. Then we watched the match in TV. My son had an
opportunity to go sleep later. He has fallen asleep at 61st minute of
the match.

The weather forecast said that it would be snowing on Saturday. I'm
wearing a winter jacket and it was too hot for it today. So I'm waiting
for the mentioned weather tomorrow.
My son has a sore throat and he is coughing. Every parent knows that it
won't be a perfect night for me today. Today for sure I will go to the
bed earlier because I am sleepy all the time.

In the morning I've spotted a road work on my alternate office route.
It won't make any additional delays but it makes me smiling. So
wherever I will be in the city the mayor would sent a hard equipment. A
pneumatic hammer was destroying a concrete floor.

Today in the office were several people from my team. The boss said
that it's obligatory to be twice a week. In the new year it would be
three times. People are upset. But there are a small thing from the
past which are going here again. I'm going back with group of
colleagues by subway today. I don't remember such situation in the last
year. Everybody was chatting as usual in the pre pandemic world. It
seems that it was so normal. People were socializing. It is so strange
that I must write about such basic things. But they are uncommon today.

Previously, before road works began, it took about 30 minutes. But on
the other side the commute is the everyday activity which is giving

The next busy day. I wanted to order a taxi by FreeNow mobile app to
save commute time but payment by ApplePay didn't worked. It seemed to
be a more global issue. It's always some problem while I'm in hurry and
I'd like order a taxi. I order them quite often with a success in a
normal situation. So I've gone by a bus.
The road works are in the most annoying phase. Today was raining so
there was a lot of mud there. Moving in a traffic jam looking at a
muddy landscape with holes and puddles is quite depressing. One of a
passenger started to complain and babbling about the magic solution of
that situation.
At the end of the trip, I almost got splashed by a car rushing through
a large puddle. I've step into the office in the "proper" mood.
Fortunately, the rest of the day at the office was also uneventful
today.
Many people around here have runny noses. I finally got over it after
two weeks. However, I still feel sleepy and even though it's Wednesday,
I'm already thinking about Saturday.
Today I browsed the small web for a while. I haven't had time for that
lately either.

The traffic is heavier in the morning for last few days. My travel to
the office is longer and longer. It was made me upset. I was in the
office short before nine. The rest of day was calm enough to do my
tasks.
When I was back at home I had must play a computer game with my son.
But today day was the day of politics. Today is the first day of lower
and upper house representatives. Many people were watching that on TV.
I also watched the most interesting parts. I do so very rarely.

It was a long day. I haven't had a free time for my self at all. In the
morning was a bit of sunshine so I've gone for a walk with my son. The
sun was shining less and less so we have been back around eleven
o'clock. Then I've made a few telephone calls to my family. I've sent
also a package to Hungary which I wrote about yesterday. After a dinner
my son had birthday guests from his kindergarten. They had gone home
around twenty. So now I'm on a sofa and I've been writing this note. It
was a good day but I don't have energy to write anything more.
I will drink a glass of wine. It's a special bottle of Amarone. A red
dry wine made from a partially dried grapes. It has a taste which I
like the most with a sugary finish despite its dryness.

Today is National Independence Day in Poland. It's important day
because it commemorates the anniversary of the restoration of Poland's
sovereignty. But it isn't celebrated with too much effort by people. It
is usually not sunny weather, chilly, or foggy as today. It doesn't
encourage to be outside, and to engage in picnic activities. For me the
holiday was taken from ordinary people. Instead of this there are many
serious ceremonies. They are often very politically centric.
One of the most known ceremony is the march taken in Warsaw.
Unfortunately, he is known for his bad side. Despite announcements
about the family nature of the event, it often ended in street brawls.
Ordinary street bandits were making their voices heard, probably on
both sides of the barricade, waiting for the events to escalate.
Moreover, patriotism was reduced to burning flares or extreme slogans.
It was never my thing.
Probably due to the upcoming change of government after the last
elections this year, the march was calmer. No one had to acquire
political capital and neither side was adequately mobilized or
financed. The turnout at the march was low. No major incident occurred.

I spent the day cleaning. I managed to sell an old winter jacket at an
online auction. I was surprised that the buyer was from Hungary.
Apparently it's popular on this platform. However, if someone in
Hungary wants to wear my jacket, let it serve him.
Unfortunately, I still have a lot to empty from the wardrobes. Selling
is a bit of a hassle, but the items are in too good condition to throw
them away.

When winter is coming it's wise to take an advantage of autumn
tomatoes. That tomatoes which are smelling like picked up from a twig.
That juice and full of red color ones. Tomatoes which are great for
Caprese.
I've seen a real /mozzarella di bufala/ in a supermarket once. I didn't
believe it could taste like in Italy. Now I know that it is great and,
despite the price, I buy it from time to time.
It lands on a plate with real Italian olive oil, fresh pepper and salt.
It's a taste of sunny day in Italy.

Ufff. It was a long day. I've been in the office as usual. Then we were
in a shopping center with my son. Then we had a doctor appointment to
control his ears. We were in home at 20:00. Out all day. I'm tired and

I had been eating Kogel-mogel [1] when I was a child. I remember while
my grandmother was making this dessert for me. I was probably around
five. This dessert is made from egg yolks and sugar. It would be
shocking today when a child is eating not cooked eggs. We are afraid of
Salmonella and so on. Even I as an adult would be careful with dishes
from not cooked eggs as for eg. Steak tartare. Let alone when you're a
child.

But then Kogel-mogel was a standard dessert. People believed that it
could help for a sore throat. I remember that it was delicious then but
I won't try this today.
I've read about it on Wikipedia. There are written that "[...] The
dessert was made popular during the communist era food shortages,
including sugar. It is still eaten in Norway, Poland and in Polish
communities around the world. [...]".
I'm thinking that it isn't true. I don't know anybody who is eating
Kogel-mogel in Poland these days. I think also that the origins of that
dessert could be not connected with communist shortages. I think that
it could be the thing well known long before WWII.

Polish cuisine has several shocking dishes as Kogel-mogel. My son is a
big fan of pickled cucumbers. There are many stories of taking pickled
cucumber as rotten food in other countries. I know children who want to
eat Czernina soup [2] which is made from a duck blood (because it has a
sweet taste). But in my family Czernina isn't popular.

But I'm a big fan of Steak tartare which is made from a raw meat,
chopped onion and an egg yolk.
But the point of view depends on point of sitting and while a trip to
China I was asked: so you are eating only a sandwich every day for
breakfast?! I fully understood this after a long time. For me eating
Chinese soups for breakfast wasn't a normal thing because it is too
fat. But I realized that in Europe we have many kinds of bread and side
dishes for it. Person who asked the question was probably thinking
about supermarket toast bread which has only a little in common (or
almost nothing apart from the name) with wide range of bakery products
in Poland.
An another time I've got to know that people are eating sandwiches with
mayonnaise instead of butter. So in Poland the standard way of eating a
sandwich is with butter. Every Pole wants to buy the "true butter"
(more than 82% of fat) and has a stock of butter in the fridge.
It's probably connected with a winter time while people try to eat a
fatty food. So this entry I must end with a bread slice with lard [3]
and salt. While you are thinking about lard it isn't obvious how it
could be tasty.

It's kind of simple dish which is similar to eating a bread slice with

My son is in the bed and I have a time to write something for today.
There wasn't any big attractions here. Travel to the office and back
home has taken more than usual. There were many roadworks there. I had
the hope that I got to home earlier but finally I was traveling as
usual.
Today I've sold the next item on the online auction. It was the one
third of price despite the thing isn't worn. I am not the best seller
probably.
I've been browsing the YT and an old toys commercial pop into my head.
I've watched G.I. Joe and M.A.S.K. toys. In '90s the most wanted thing
was a satellite TV. There were many satellite dishes on balconies. And
I was able to watch foreign channels. The most attractive was of course
channels with animated cartoons. And even more attractive were all toys
commercials. The most of things showed there was things that cannot be
obtained in Poland. Despite everything I was watching them with
enjoyment.

It was a long day. Today my son had the first dentist visit. We have
got up in the morning because we must be there about 8 o'clock. We were
talking about a dentist equipment all week. It worked with everything.
It withstood tooth drilling and filling.
As parents we were upset that despite all efforts there was need to
fill a tooth. We had a sonic toothbrush but we didn't use it because he
was afraid of it. However, everything has been fixed and we brush our
teeth with an electric toothbrush as we should. Milk teeth can be seen
to be very sensitive and may develop cavities within a month or two.
It's great that there are child dentists. She has done a great job. My
son wasn't afraid and she had been talking in the appropriate to the
age way. So the filling has been done like the Ninjago (LEGO
characters) so my son was under big impression.
It's said that there are many modern dentists equipment in Poland in
comparison to the West Europe. In fact there are many expensive
dentists here. They are able to do the most complicated cases including
X-rays, root canal treatment using a microscope or oral surgery
procedures. There are only one problem - it's probably the most
expensive treatments which could cost several thousand euros. Public
health system doesn't offer all that things, or people have to wait in
queue for a long time for every visit what is meaningless. Private
clinics are often far away from financial possibilities of the average
Pole.

It isn't the big surprise that there is cloudy today. I'm looking
through the living room window at distance city landscape. There are as
always trees of river shore. Dark brown and dark green blobs of
branches with a bit of last dark yellow leafs. So I'm thinking about a
nature with the Sunday espresso. Obligatory in pajamas, as slow life.

Yesterday my wife and I drank wine. Today I feel my head slightly. I'm
weaned on wine. I used to drink more often. I have quite refined taste
in wine from this period. The wine must only be dry. Preferably heavy
and full of flavor. Leaving the so-called tears on the glass. When
everyone winces at the taste and you feel the sweet finish on your
tongue. This wine was a gift from the Mediterranean and had a decent
taste, but not great. I have another special bottle of Italian wine.
However, it is waiting for a better opportunity.

that day option. It was the trip to the India. We were sitting on a
balcony drinking drinks. On a street opposite to that place were

A phone call to relatives. My grandmother is calling because he didn't
answer my phone in the morning. She is more than 90 years old. She had

Everyone had runny noses. The autumn weather has arrived and it is
taking its toll. Plus dark and short days. I went to bed early last
night and forgot to post my notes. It wasn't too long because I also
notice a decline in my writing form.
This morning I got up well rested after eight o'clock. The sun was
shining, so after morning coffee, my son and I walked 4 km to the park
and back. When it was sunny, even though it was 10 degrees, it was
warm. When the sun went down there was a chill.
In the meantime, I sold another item at an online auction. The whole
thing is designed in such a way that I just have to pack it and send it
to a parcel locker. I don't even have to print a label, I just need to
write the nine digits of the sending code. It is convenient. However, I
did not have the right box for the size of the shipment. I looked in
local stores and finally found something.
I thought my price was low, so I mainly do it to avoid throwing away
good stuff. Maybe someone will benefit. This is more trouble for me
than financial gain. This time I sold a pillow for a pregnant woman to

Sometimes your child got a gift you aren't content. So my child got a
LEGO-like bricks set. It's almost the same in shape and the whole
system. But it's manufactured without taking care of quality. So it's
hard to assemble the smallest element even for an adult. So I'm trying
not to talk about that as it's a bad thing. But it's a garbage.

Will pounding pork loin into pork chops seem exotic to anyone? I'm
doing it right now. A good idea of the new times is to use transparent
foil in a roll, so that the meat does not splash to the sides during
whipping.
I discovered some time ago that my family recipe for that dish isn't
the most common one. Pounded meat with pepper and salt is waiting in a
fridge also with a sliced onion. People are frying meat without that
step but I like when meat gained the onion taste and smell.
This is probably the most popular dish in Poland. I was surprised once
while I saw a similar dish in Japan cuisine. But there isn't the same
fried breadcrumb and egg coating. In Japan the meet is cut into strips,
to help eat by chopsticks.

We visited the cemetery. Nice sunny weather today. Years ago, November
1 was usually so cold that winter jackets were worn and women wore
furs. It often snowed or sleet. The weather has been sunny lately, good
for an autumn walk along the cemetery paths between the trees.

I was testing Offpunk again. I've add a list of links from my /Gopher
Novice/ series and there is a problem with big video files which are
queued for syncing. This caused killing of Offpunk process. Even
without that videos, the disk cache for the list has about 1,5GB. I
didn't suppose that it will be so huge. I've sent a message to the
mailing list to ask how to handle that. [1]
