8th January 2025 - Chants of Sennaar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I spent Sunday playing and completing Chants Of Sennaar. It is an
adventure game which is mostly about solving puzzles. You awake from a
stone slab as a mysterious person in a robe. You wonder around until
you reach a door. You look at the door and spot mysterious writing.
Looks a bit like it could mean 'open' and 'close'. You go through the
door and see valves in various states. A sign suggests what state the
valves need to be in but all in this mysterious language. What do you
do with this?
You progress through puzzles and find yourself in love with this
strange world. The characters are charming and drawn in an art style
which draws you in. You soon learn that this is just one level in a
tower of different groups. Each group has a different style and
different languages. Your aim is to keep going up the tower while
learning each language. There are sometimes objects which say the
same message in 2 languages. Otherwise, you end up trying to find
clues by reading any sign and talking to any possible person.
The puzzles are interesting and occasionally challenging. However, the
level of challenge never feels excessive. While you are doing the same
sort of thing with each new group, it does not feel repetitive. The
most annoying part is the stealth parts. They are dependent on timing
and I did suffer a fair few deaths due to being off by what felt like
half a second. Annoying but I may be a bit pants at stealth games.
If you are after a chill game which has plenty of puzzles and places
to explore, go play this game! Absolute delight.
