I went to a proper standing up gig last night. It was to see the ever
fun and entertaining Steve N Seagulls, a Finnish blue grass metal
covers band. They are better live and know how to have fun. The first
time I saw them, there was a crazy drawn out psychadelic beauty of a
cover of Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild. This time they decided to
finish off with a surprisingly hymnal rendition of Iron Maiden's Run
To The Hills. For those who have not heard it, the lyrics start "White
man came across the sea to cause us pain and misery". There is nothing
subtle about it. However the band got everyone singing that intro
before starting to play along. A strange experience and pretty much
perfect for the band! It was a great finish for a fairly busy day. I
dropped a friend off in Leicester and got stuck in traffic. I kept
seeing people in blue and wondering why. Then suddenly it dawned on
me... FOOTBALL SHIRTS! They were only Leicester City supporters on the
way to a game. It took me an hour to travel some 5 miles all because I
appeared before a 3 o'clock kick off. Sigh, we all learn to check
match days eventually.

Today was the final day of Aki. There were certainly some surprises. I
think I have to eat humble pie for thinking that Takakeisho was not
going to get his winning record to escape kadoban status. He did it
even if it looked impossible on day 3. Today, he managed to be bowled
out of the dohyo and took out the gyoji at the same time. The yusho
winner was of course the new Yokozuna, Terunofuji. He did well with a
13-2 winning record. I am sure he was aiming for a perfect record or
zen yusho but Daieisho and Meisei stopped that one from happening.
They did well and Daieisho ended up winning a special prize for his
performance. I think the next basho will be exciting with Hakuho and
Terunofuji wanting to show each other that they are the daddy now.
