Two things today. The first is the return to Scouts after the summer.
We are now in green which means no covid restrictions beyond our own
risk assessment. Usual lack of advice but freedom at least until the
finger wagging starts. We made catapults by tying 3 poles into a
triangle and then attaching rubber bands to a cup and then to the
poles. It makes for a simple pioneering project which takes about 5
minutes for a leader and so 30 minutes for a scout to do. It got them
chatting in teams while working on something which is fun at the end
of it. Ideal for the return from summer. The explorers had a
reflection session thinking back to their camp. It seems they were
happy with what they did. We then made catapults after.
The other thing is that today is the 25th birthday of Anonradio. I
celebrated by finding a way to listen and watch com while in work.
Sadly I cannot ssh anywhere with work equipment and my desk is not
quite big enough to fit the work keyboard with a laptop. Mostly due to
the other stuff on the desk. However, I have been looking for a use
for a 2 in 1 HP pavillion 11 inch laptop I have. It was one of those
great hardware which had bizarre cost cutting. It is one of those
stupid 32Gb storage with 2Gb ram affairs which you were somehow
expected to run windows on. I was going through a windows phase until
I could not do updates as Windows had filled the memory with junk. It
got me back into using linux again. Anyhow, this laptop is a
frustrating one when it comes to linux thanks to dodgy support for a
specific generation of Intel processors. Sound is just not happening
on it. So it has sat around all forgotten until I decided I needed a
COM machine. I have stuck Manjaro i3WM on there and it is a lovely
machine again. The lack of sound is still irritating but the small
size means the laptop fits on the desk with the work keyboard!
Perfect. So I spent part of the work day on com while listening to the
many oddities which appeared in the play lists from 1200ish until
1600ish UTC. I caught most of Publius' favourite chapters show. Sadly
I could not catch mnw, tob and northernlights' shows as I was at
Scouts. Good job they are all recorded in the archives so I can catch
up tomorrow after some boring meetings. Happy birthday aNONradio, the
delightfully odd and charismatic radio channel of SDF. Heres to the
next 25 years!
