Finally some downtime! Work has been crazy lately, and I just
haven't had the energy or motivation to update the ol'
gopherhole. But I'm off for a long weekend, headed south into
Vermont tomorrow with the family for some r&r, and I feel a bit
rejuvenated already.

We've been holding off on crossing the border lately, as we've been
waiting on the kids' Canadian passports. An odd side-effect of
changing status from permanent resident (PR) to citizen is that they
take your PR card when you get your citizenship certificate. But
that puts you in limbo, since to get back into Canada once you
leave, you need some sort of travel document, and a citizenship
certificate is not valid for travel. Using your US passport is not
advised for people that live in Canada, since it is really only
meant for visa-exempt visitors status. My guess is that you'd get
delayed, but not prevented from entering Canada in that case, but
it's best not to tempt fate with border guards. Luckily the wait for
a passport is only about a month, so we're off, passports in hand.

My wife continues to recover from her concussion. It's been eight
weeks or so, and she is finally able to tolerate things like
watching TV and doing mild exercise. She still has no memory of the
accident, however.

I see tons of great updates to the other phlogs I frequent, so I'm
catching up on what I missed, and I'm certain they'll give me fodder
for some new posts. Until next time!
