The idea that there could be states in the Western world arranged
around abstract concepts (devotion to liberty, freedom of religion,
democratic ideals and so on) has died.
The dream of assimilating the newcomers into US or European culture
has failed due to the huge influx of people who have assembled in
ghettos forming parallel societies.
Empires have always inevitably broken down along religious, racial
and ethnic lines.
