Week starting July 13th, 2020 (Week 29)
=======================================

After an abortive attempt to set up a project gemini server[0] on my
utility VPS, I decided to look into creating a gopher log on SDF. It's
all very manual right now, but there's a simple joy to that. It has
also been way harder than I expected it to be.

My daughter and I finally managed to make our Animal Crossing island
tidy enough for KK Slider to come play a concert. She watched me listen
to the concert first, and then was overjoyed to see that she also got
to see the performance when she played herself. So ACNH has redeemed
itself somewhat (see comments elsewhere). But I still need to see some
more variety in the stuff sold in the shops.

I'm going for a backpack fitting tomorrow. Due to COVID-19, you have to
schedule and appointment and everything, which seems a bit odd. But
I've gotten tired of making do with okay daypacks that sag, or make me
sweat like mad. I'm likely coming home with an Osprey Skarab 30[1]
tomorrow. It's pretty technical for a bag that will mostly be toting
snacks, picnic stuff, and stuffed animals while travelling. I think
it's the right investment to make, though.

A quick tip: if you're on a Mac, and you want to hard wrap text (for,
say, a gopherlog), you can do the following at the command line:
pbpaste | fold -w 72 -s | pbcopy
What that does is pipe the contents of the clipboard through fold; wrap
at 72 columns, breaking at spaces; pipe the output of fold into the
clipboard. If you're not using a clipboard manager (use a clipboard
manager), that will replace the unwrapped version. You can then paste
into your editor.

Why 72 columns? Way back in 1994 when I was taking computer science
that was what my TAs required for all submissions.
