100g Pearl Barley
600ml Water (& just enough extra tap water to cover the Barley in a pan)
Place the Barley in a pan & just cover with tap water.
Bring this to the boil then stop.
Drain off & discard the tap water (this has 'washed' the Barley).
Add the 600ml of water to the pan of hot Barley & simmer for 5 minutes.
Strain the liquid into a jug & allow to cool before serving.
Keep the Pearl Barley you have just used - It can be made into a risotto.
