Adieu 2021

Hunkering down at home for New Year's Eve - not only due to the pandemic -
my spouse contracted Pneumonia and is quite miserable.  It's been a steady
stream of antibiotics, pain meds and the occassional shot of cough syrup.
Progress is being made and it's been a quiet NYE, which has made me consider
how the rest of the world is celebrating 2022.  Instead of hosting people or
trying to get into a crowded restaurant or bar, are there places that it's
more customary to silently reflect on the year while sipping tea? As I get
old^H more 'worldly', I'm 100% ok with staying in for a quiet evening,
possibly even skipping whatever Times Square ball drop fest is taking place.
We'll see what the future holds...by next year will we be in yet another year
of the pandemic?  I'm hopeful we'll be in a better spot - to paraphrase Calvin
& Hobbes 'The problem with the future is that it keeps turning into the present'.
