A week with FreeDOS, WWIII and FidoNet

================================

So, its now a bit over a week since my last entry in the
phlog and since i started setting up my FreeDOS box. So far
i am surprisingly happy with this system. What i find
absolutely astounding doing ctual work on an DOS system
feels more "fluid" and faster than on my I7 powered powered
workstatin in the office. The only thing i have to do now
is to get arachne (THE dos based internet package) to
handle https websites. But this is a point i will describe
(if i succeed) in a longer article.

I have read unixl0rds post about this feeling about
impending doom that i pretty much share. Its in a way like
back in 2001 when you realize that a new era begins... and
not a good one. I think its indeed the constant feed we get
though social media that generates this sense in our
subconciousness, everything feels so much more real
compared to the news coverage we have seen in earlier
conflicts.

But let us not fool ourselves: I think we are not only
sleepwalking into WWIII, i think we are already in it. I
mean: Nearly any nation on this planet is already in some
way involved in this war, there are already volunteers of
many nations fighting for Ukraine... so i think the only
point is "How far will it go?". As some german media are
now reporting that the pressure loss on the two Northstream
pipelines could vry likely be sabotage. If this is the case
we are in for a even bigger shitshow.

I recently stumbled into the FidoNet and i am now trying to
find my way around. I think its relative obscurity and
asynchronous nature makes it the perfect communication
channel for todays world (or better: For the world we are
heading towards).
