My new laptop (Borges, named after Jorge Luis Borges) has arrived. It's a
Thinkpad T420 (hello, pet84rik!) -- and it is brilliant. For me, its keyboard is
still the finest one manufactured for a laptop, like, ever. Its size is also
perfect. It is refurbished, but apart from a few aesthetic things it is in
really great condition. I bought it with 4 Gigs of RAM, so I also ordered an
additional 4 Gigs module. The additional RAM shipped first, which was a bit
weird -- the module was sitting on my desk, I was looking at it for three or
four days and imagined how I would upgrade Borges.
Borges is currently running Solus, which is a totally new thing for me. I
haven't tried it previously, nor I was aware that it exits. And I must say I
really like it so far. It is one of the independent, user friendly distros,
which means I have to learn new things yet again (which is fine) and also that
the DE (Budgie) is quite an eye candy (which I don't mind either). More
importantly it is really-really fast on Borges and everything works. Everything
just works. No need for workarounds and extra packages.
Wifi works. Bluetooth works. Suspend and sleep work. All the function keys
(brightness, volume etc) work. Even the bezel lamp works.

I also have a new desk in my study slash library slash office.
The company I work for decided to buy new furniture so they put the old pieces
up for sale for the employees (for the record: the old furniture was way better
than the new one). So I bought a desk for the price of a smartphone case and I
finally have enough desk space for the three monitors of Amethyst and there's
still space left for my printer and the external hard drive I have.
To sum up, I am really happy with both purchases -- I am totally in love with
Borges (writing these very words on it), also the old-new desk is a real quality
upgrade for my study.
