Show me your names
==================

I've seen that lately many of you guys posted a list of your computers and
hardware with specifications and such.

What I haven't seen in these posts however -- and I am really curious about --
is the *names* of these devices. You see, when I buy or assembly a new piece of
hardware, finding the perfect (network discoverable) name for it is often the
hardest part during the installation of the system.

As I wrote before[0], I have a naming convention:

* my RasPis are named after coastal cities;
* my desktops are named after gemstones; and
* my mobile devices (laptops and phones) are named after famous librarians.

My current inventory is

* Amethyst (a desktop PC);
* Sapphire (another desktop, currently unused);
* (Benjamin) Franklin (Samsung N300 netbook)
* (Philip) Larkin (the Thinkpad R60 I got from my father and haven't managed to
return -- yet)
* Lewis (Carroll) (my Huawei P9 smartphone)
* Aberdeen (my first RasPi running my gopher server and some backup stuff)
* Brisbane (my second RasPi used as a Kodi box)

And I'm already thinking about a cool name for my recently bought Thinkpad which
is yet to arrive.

So while distros came and go for most of us, so as specs are changing as we
upgrade our machines, names are more or less permanent and unique.

It's your turn now: do you have a naming convention for your tech, or you just
use the brand/model during setup?

Show me your names.
