Comics log: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Artobiography

Containing a ton of sketches and never before seen TMNT artwork,
accompanied by Kevin Eastman's commentary, this book gives the fans
an insight into the creative process behind the Mirage run of the
series. You follow the drawings from their initial idea to the
finished product, and it's cool to see the difference between the
pencil sketches, the inked versions, and the print ready "two tone"
artwork. Overall, I wish they had cut down the amount of "thumbnail"
pages to 1/10th, and instead had given a select few of them a lot
more space on the pages. It's a shame that the raw material hasn't
been scanned in higher resolution, and isn't presented in a truer
version. The book fails to illustrate out the material difference
between pencil sketches, different color ball point pens, different
types of paper, etc, used in the production of the artwork. The
"Sketchbook One" section of the book has a better approach to
presenting the sketches, however. A fun fact - Kevin Eastman had
drawn NYC as a setting in several issues of TMNT before he ever
visited the city himself.
