A mixed experience reading this. The storytelling and setting has a
very nostalgic and naive early 1980s vibe, with obvious references
to Frank Miller's Daredevil, Marvel, etc. The artwork is wonderfully
handmade, DIY and analog. Unfortunately the original black & white
pages were scanned using a rather low resolution, so the reproduction
has a slightly fuzzy look to it. Worse still is the fact that you
can see the "pixels" from the scanning process - and this combined
with the fact that the originals used a ton of dotted halftone
techniques leads to moire patterns and distorted aliasing.
Between each chapter there are cool texts and additional artwork
from Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman, which gives a nice background.
The artwork in these intermissions is obviously scanned using a
higher DPI, so the contrast to the actual comic book material is
very noticeable.
