The parts for the Digital Mavica finally arrived today! I
got it reassembled and am pleased to report it is working
wonderfully. I cannot claim the same for my photography
capabilities though, and it seems I've been spoiled by modern
tech a bit. My photos keep coming out too dark, or too bright, or
out of focus. I'll have to keep practicing at it, but for now
I've added a new section to the library for photos and uploaded
the ones that have turned out the best. I decided not to correct
the clock on the camera, so the timestamps are all off by about
23 years, haha.
I have a bunch of 3.5" floppy disks that should be coming in
the mail tomorrow morning. My current supply is getting a bit low
so I bought up a bulk lot from a recycler online. I like to buy
used floppy disks, because sometimes you get lucky and find some
neat stuff on them before formatting. I'm amazed at how
lackluster information security must have been back in the 90s,
as I have found a bunch of corporate data on second-hand floppies
over the years. The process is a bit of a hassle though, as I
have to check them all out on my Linux machine before trying
anything on my DOS machines so I can make sure I'm not
accidentally giving myself a virus while I'm digging for floppy
disk gold.
