The last workday of the week was as uneventful as the
previous four, thankfully. Still no joy on the Digital Mavica
parts, although the WiFi repeater I ordered for this machine a
week or so ago did show up. It has an ethernet port onboard as
well so now, instead of snaking cables haphazardly throughout the
house, I can just run a short cable to the repeater stationed
right next to the computer itself - this seemed a better solution
than trying to write a DOS driver for a PCI WiFi card, haha.
My coworker came through today, setting off something of a
chain reaction. After hearing that I was taking care of some old
electronics for him, work handed over some monitors they were
going to dispose of - some actually pretty nice ones by modern
standards. I managed to get ahold of a digital signage unit as
well (effectively a small form factor PC), which I might be able
to do some interesting stuff with. Unfortunately, the beige
monitor is not a Dell-branded Trinitron - the old beige computer
and monitor are from a late 90s Compaq Presario set. Everything
is integrated into the motherboard except networking, so I don't
know if there'll be anything worth grabbing beyond disk drives
and maybe a CPU. At least the other stuff made for good finds!
