Went to bed entirely too late again last night, woke up
entirely too late as well. Have been feeling more than a bit
sleep deprived and little dehydrated today, which is to say I
feel like crap. I decided to take it easy today and not really
get too stuck into anything.
I set up another text editor, FED, on this machine in hopes
of being able to edit my gophermaps offline and then just upload
them when I'm done, instead of having to edit them online using
pico, which is what I have been doing up to now. This should make
adding new entries easier, as instead of having to connect via
ftp to upload my entries, then disconnect ftp and reconnect via
telnet to edit my gophermaps, then disconnect telnet and
reconnect via gopher to see what everything looks like, I will be
able to just upload my stuff and go straight to the browser.
I also, for funsies, added a startup tune that plays when
autoexec.bat finishes. I have a lot going on with this machine,
so it takes DOS a while to finish loading in drivers and
executing startup commands, and start accepting new commands, so
this is a good way to let me know when it's ready. I had to go
look up the helpfiles for PLANY again, I couldn't figure out why
my WAVs sounded like garbled static and white noise. Turns out it
requires a switch to play signed WAVs correctly, and you get a
burst of white noise at the end of the audio if there's any
metadata attached to the WAV, so setting that switch and clearing
out the metadata took care of those problems.
I'm not planning on getting into too much else tonight, so
I'm gonna sign off on this here. Later on, everybody.
