I spent yesterday evening writing a small Gopher server library,
thinking 'how hard could it be'? Turns out, not hard at all. And
the client is of course even simpler. It's mind-boggling how much
more complicated the modern web and web browsers have become,
with--occasionally, at least--reduced usability too, to add insult
to injury.
And they are overflowing with voices promoting and selling and
arguing and lying and shouting.
So, here I am, a refugee from all that sound and fury, dismantling
the last few decades of corporate and computing progress one tiny
step at a time, having found, perhaps, at long last, a quiet corner
far, I hope, from the madding crowd.
