Wiki Introduction
The pages of this web site are generated by the program YukiWiki,
one of many [[WikiEngine]]s available for download from the
WorldWideWeb.
A WikiEngine is a program designed to allow a group of people to
easily collaborate to build and maintain a set of interlinked
web pages using nothing more than WebBrowser on their own
computers, even if the group is geographically distributed over
TimeZones or continents.
Sound like a family you know?
A wiki can be an effective tool for group communication and
collaboration because pages are dynamic and interactive.
Any user can enter the latest information as soon as it becomes
available, or correct mistakes as soon as they are noticed.
Wiki pages are also free-form, allowing each page to be designed
freely to meet the group's particular needs, but without the need
to master the complexity of HTML or other technology.
:To edit a wiki page:Open the page you want to edit with your WebBrowser and click the "Edit" link at the top of the page. An edit window loaded with the page's contents will open. (If the contents of the edit window don't match the page you were viewing, refresh the edit page.) Change or add text in the window. Click the "Save" button below the edit box when you are done.
:Text formatting:Designed to be as simple as possible. Basically, enter the text you want to appear, leaving a blank line between paragraphs, and the WikiEngine will format them nicely like they were ordinary HTML pages. Put an asterisk (&verb(*)) makes it a top-level heading. Surrounding text with three single-quote marks (&verb(''')text''')) puts the text in italics ('''text'''). Other formatting options are listed below the edit window.
:Wiki page links:For wiki pages with names that follow the pattern of two or more capitalized words run together (e.g. &verb(MyWikiPage)), the WikiEngine will create a link to the page whereever its name appears in other pages. For wiki page names that don't follow the pattern, type the name surrounded with double brackets &verb([[ ... ]]) to create a link. Links to wiki pages that don't exist will be displayed as a question mark which can be clicked to open an edit window for a new page.
:WWW hyperlinks:Type a web page URI (e.g.
http://papa.motd.org) in the wiki page text and the WikiEngine will automatically format it as a hyperlink.
:To create a new page:Edit and exiting page, add a link to the new wiki page, and save. On the edited page, click on the question mark link following the new wiki page name. An empty edit window will be displayed. Enter the text of the new page (the first line will be used as an extension to the title when the page is displayed) and save.
