It began a hun'ed years ago when I had my own phone. Yeah, AT&T wired
into my room at the Goodrich Club. (<= more on the Coop anon) One of
the slimline types. Lit up when you took the receiver off hook.
First thing I did was run a length of masking tape around the bell.
Instead of that gawd-awful RING RING RING ... all it would do is
quietly Trrrrrrreble. And it was as a rule hidden under the bed. So
what's the deal with that? You have a phone, why not make the mose of
it.
BECAUSE it is my telephone, yes I rent it from AT&T, but I get to
choose who and when I want to use it. Very quickly I learned about
the hold that Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) has with regards to
telephones. I recognized this phenomenon very early in my
technological development and set the *RED FLAG* on any device or
behavior that raised the FOMO.
All that to say, same goes for cell phones, sip phones, voip, etc.
