Paleons, for the most part, sounds like any modern prog/psych-rock outfit
on the West Coast. However, what sets their music apart from their
contemporaries is the inclusion of electronic elements from a modular synth
rack. "Hyperborean" includes not only the telltale bleeps and bloops of a
true synth-head's personal modular rig, but also lush electronic
soundscapes that blend into the atmospheric guitars present all over the
album, especially on tracks like "Andromeda, the Tomb of the Sun". If you
want a look at yet another strange fusion of genres, while also enjoying
some fantastic guitar tones and prog-rock songwriting, then "Hyperborean"
is for you.
