Xiu Xiu's "Forget" is quite off-putting at first glance. The idiosyncratic
production and overdramatic vocals can seem strange and alien. However,
underneath that awkward impression is a truly crushing narrative and focus
on progressive songwriting. From the anger of "The Call" to the disturbing
monologue of "Faith, Torn Apart", the story of a sex slave in a brothel
emerges. Xiu Xiu truly is a one-of-a-kind musical project, and everyone
should try out this album, one of their more accessible ones, at least once.
