the seagull stood alone in the empty parking lot. the
city traffic was a distant drone, seemingly muffled by the
rays of the dying spring sun.

white feathers, lukewarm breeze, the smell of concrete,
newborn trees. this newly-made strip mall, a potential for
the rich. the newly installed windows, all shining urban
gems.

a human came and sat on the curb, a few feet away from the
seagull. "this world brings a sadness, especially right now;
a sadness that i wish i could describe".

the bird didn't understand, but it could still relate. the
sun's dying breath left them both in the dark. the parking
lot's lamps weren't connected just yet.
