<initial_post>

Hi. Thanks for stopping by. This is the umpteenth time I've started to use some medium of expression to broadcast
whatever it is I've decided to say. All previous attempts failed after a week or two, for several known reasons and
however many unknown reasons. First and foremost among them being that I have always thought that if you are going
to communicate some idea or another, it ought to be worth somebody's time. I have never felt, nor do I still, that
I necessarily have anything to say that quite meets this criteria. If this little project persists for more than I
month I'll be pleasantly surprised and be forced to admit that the previous statement is no longer true, or that I
quit giving a damn. In any event I'll belay the introspection now to avoid permanently turning you off of reading
this.

I started to type up a trite summary of "me" just now and thought better of it. I read neither my own or other
people's linkedIn profiles back when I had one--and I certainly don't hang out on SDF because I want to reimplement
an ASCII version of the web's mess here. I fit the general class of persons as they have self-described on their
phlogs/gopher holes that I have seen so far pretty well: I work in technology, have more than a little distaste for
what the world has become, and in various philosophical and practical ways am a bit disappointed with the fact that
I have contributed at least somewhat to the things I believe are wrong with the world in exchange for money. One of
the few differentiating factors about me that someone may find interesting is that I joined the army & married a
woman I couldn't stand intentionally trying to emulate Ernest Hemingway when I was younger. Quite happily both of
those mistakes have long since been resolved. C'est la vie!

Enough of that drivel. So what is this phlog about, you ask (so long as you're here I'll feel no guilt putting
words in your mouth)? I haven't the faintest clue. In past lives, when I'd start a blog or begin a physical
notebook, I would make declarations like "X's Mathematics Blog" or "The Programming Paradigm Journal of X" and so
forth. Uniformly ended in disaster. So at this point all that I can say is that it's more likely that you'll find
phlog posts about quantitative or technical topics here, but I make you no assurances. Just the other day I had a
misadventure in the acquisition of a Christmas tree from a big-box retailer--you very well may find a write-up of
that nonsense here as well. If someone e-mails me an interesting question or idea, I'll do my best to treat it here
at some point.
