CHART NOTES:
Lots of changes on the chart this week.... except at the top. Jewel holds on to the #1 spot
for the 3rd week in a row with "Again & Again", a track taken from her latest album Goodbye
Alice in Wonderland. The album marks a return to her more alternative folk roots that was
typical of her debut back in the 1990s. I always liked Jewel but never bought her dance album
released about 3 years ago.
The top 5 has also changed with several songs moving up a few points to claim positions 2, 3,
4 and 5. Those tracks include Saving Grace's "Girl Next Door" at #2, Natasha Bedingfield's
"Unwritten" at #3, James Blunt's "Wiseman" at #4 and Nelly Furtado's "Promiscuous" at #5.
These songs replaced Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Dani California" which spent 2 weeks at #2 after
falling from #1 7 weeks ago. That song enjoyed a 6 week run at the top before fading. Looks
like it is on its way out.
Elsewhere on the top 10, Los Lonely Boys' make their top 10 debut this year with "Diamonds" a
new rock track very reminiscent to their #1 smash hit of 2004, "Heaven." Looks like this one
is going to be winner. Also in the top 10 is the newest track from Bon Jovi, "Last Man
Standing" which moves to #9. It's the second track from their Have A Nice Day album to chart
on the top 20. The earlier track, a duet with Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles is still on the
chart. "Who Says You Can't Go Home" peaked at #2 several weeks ago and is still a regular play
on my iPod and iTunes. Great rock song with a very slight country twang in it.
Four songs make their debut on the top 20 this week. They include Gnarls Barkley's debut track
"Crazy" coming in at #14. Two remakes make their debut this week. Mary J. Blige teamed up with
U2 to recut the band's #1 smash from 1992 called "One." The song is back on the chart with
this duet debuting at #18. The heavy metal hair band Def Leppard, a fixture in the late 1980s
and early 1990s are back with a remake of the old David Essex song "Rock On." This is a decent
cover of a great track that was originally released way back in 1974. The last of the debut
tracks is Cheyenne Kimball's "Hanging On" at #20.
Four songs fell off the chart this week. They include "Babysitter" by Morningwood, "I Thank
You" by Rebecca St. James, "You're Beautiful" a former #1 by James Blunt and "Shake Our Tree"
by The Rosebuds.
