The new service is presented as a public service to aid motorists in planning for their daily commute. The broadcast originates from live traffic monitoring cameras set up at 73 major thoroughfares in the urban Honolulu area from Kalihi to Kahala. Air times for the traffic broadcasts are from 6 to 8:30 AM and 4 to 6:PM, Monday through Friday. It airs on Oceanic Channel 22 and TCI Channel 13 in the Hawaii Kai area. ------------------------------------------------------------------- HULAMOONERS ARE HONEYMOONERS HAWAIIAN STYLE A new situation comedy program entitled "The Hulamooners" made its
on local TV last month. The show, is loosely based on the old "Honeymooners" TV series of the 1950s. The Hulamooners is set in urban Honolulu and has a very localized slant. It features 2 married couples who go through a series of funny problems and situations. The show stars Ray Bumatai, Tracy Anderson, Cora Lei Rivera and Cyndi Mayo Souza. The first episode aired on Thursday, June 29 in prime time on NBC Hawaii News 8 (KHNL 13). Subsequent episodes will be aired on the same channel at various days and times. It is hoped by the show's producers that The Hulamooners will become a regular fixture on local TV and eventually make it to national syndication. ------------------------------------------------------------------- CHANNEL 2's JOE MOORE SIGNS LONG TERM CONTRACT Joe Moore, Hawaii's #1 television anchorperson recently signed a new, long-term contract with KHON TV Channel 2 for an undisclosed sum. Moore's contract insures that he will be on the air at Channel 2 until
to retire. The contract squelches all rumours that Moore had at one time or another, planned to leave Channel 2 after its switch in network affiliation from NBC to FOX early this year. Moore was quoted as saying that he is proud to continue working as part of the Hawaii's most respected news team at KHON. For more information on Joe Moore and KHON TV, visit the KHON TV website at http://www.khon.com/news/. ------------------------------------------------------------------- HOT NEW COUNTRY STATION HITS HILO AIRWAVES After a long delayed debut, KKOA FM 107.7 finally hit the airwaves in the Hilo and East Hawaii area of the Big Island. The new station being operated by Brewer Broadcasting is the second radio station in the state to feature a country music format. The new station's official format is billed as "Hot New Country," and features a mix of mostly contemporary country music favorites. "Dr. Dave" Franklin is the station's morning drive personality and
"He seems like a rather nice dude and so far the programming is excellent." The station is being broadcast from a transmitter located in the Mountain View area of the Big Island, which means that a lot of people in the Hilo and Puna districts should be getting clear reception of KKOA. ------------------------------------------------------------------- TOURIST INFORMATION SUPER Q STATION NOW ON AIR After weeks of false starts and a test run on a very weak signal, KORL FM 99.5 officially became radio active with full power on June 26. The new station features a mix of contemporary, Hawaiian and Japanese music and is geared toward the Japanese visitor market here in Hawaii. ------------------------------------------------------------------- RADIO FREE HAWAII IS MOST POPULAR STATION ACCORDING TO POLL Editor's Note: First of all let me apologize for the lateness of the poll results. The survey what is your favorite radio station and who (or what) is your favorite morning radio show. The answers to the key questions break down as follows: 1.
