Arctic science event is scheduled for today. The North Pole
Expedition: Wha= t Do We Know About the 13th Arctic Ocean
Scientific Expedition? China's 13t= h Arctic Ocean scientific
expedition team is now working in the Chukchi Sea= . During the
roughly 80-day journey, the crew will have about 40 days to ca=
rry out scientific research. "Our expedition this time focuses
on the ecosy= stem changes against the rapid changes in the
Arctic with four major tasks,= " Wang Jinhui, leader of the
scientific expedition team, told China Media G= roup (CMG).

Alaska Division of Oil and = Gas Plans Geothermal Lease Sale
for Volcano Near Anchorage The Alaska Divis= ion of Oil and Gas
is preparing to hold a lease sale offering rights to exp= lore
for geothermal energy resources of Mount Spurr, a snow-capped
volcano = about 80 miles northwest of Anchorage. The decision
was announced on July 2= 8 by Division Director Derek

communities, concerned ci= tizens, and others. It is nonprofit

international conference, organized by the City = of Rovaniemi
and the Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland, gathers po=
licymakers, academics, and other stakeholders for Arctic
discussions. Due t= o Russia's invasion of Ukraine, changes in
Arctic cooperation will be promi= nently featured in the
conference agenda, and will be explored from the poi= nt of
view of national and international security, and from a

experts, operational agency r= epresentatives, scientists, and
others =E2=80=93 from around the world. Muc= h of the summit is
organized around discussions led by working groups on pa=
rticular themes (Regional to global observing, Data sharing,

In addition to plenary and = working group sessions, this year

Boulder, Colorad= o USA 4th International Conference on Arctic
Research Planning (ICARP IV) I= n lead up to its 35th
anniversary in 2025, the International Arctic Science=
Committee (IASC) is coordinating a multi-year planning process
for the Fou= rth International Conference on Arctic Research
Planning (ICARP IV) that wi= ll engage Arctic researchers,
policymakers, residents, and stakeholders fro= m around the
world to collegially discuss the state of Arctic science, the =
place the Arctic occupies in global affairs and systems, to
consider the mo= st urgent knowledge gaps and research
priorities that lie before us and to = explore avenues to
address these research needs. This event is hosted by a =
consortium of US institutions, including the University of
Colorado Boulder= , University of Northern Iowa, University of
Alaska Fairbanks, and Alaska P= acific University. ICARP I, II,
and III focused the attention of the world= =E2=80=99s
researchers toward the value of strategic international
coordina= tion in accelerating progress in addressing critical
challenges. ICARP IV w= ill build upon this concept by striving
to achieve consensus and build coll= aborations among the
leading scientific, academic, environmental, Indigenou= s and
political organizations currently concerned with Arctic issues.
