I should look at some of the recent changes. My major foray into
  linguistics was first in some courses at college WAY BACK in
  1990/91, and a bit in the mid-late 90s being a member of the
  LINGUIST emailing list and having a few discussion there. (I was
  teaching myself Russian at the time and wanted to bounce some
  ideas off of working linguists and see what was the 'state of
  the art' at the time)

  Flash-forward to 2014, I discovered Embodied Cognition and
  Lakoff. Instant fan. Not perfect stuff but it's 'close enough'
  for me for now.
