It's been long enough for a comeback. It got 'old'. WAS: Instant
pictures? BIG DEAL - we had DiGitAl na0 IS : Digital pictures?*
BIG DEAL - we want something we can touch instead 'just another
digital picture. It's because what's new "got old" and what's
old "looks new".* I'm still waiting for instant 3D
camera/printers myself.* We're not far away from it. 3D live
scanning will soon be mature, where you can scan with your
kinect-type thing on your phone (they'll all have them in a year
or three) - Google's Project Tango is just the first of what'll
be many - , where you can make a Minecraft-like model of your
reality around you... and then it'll Bluetooth (or some faster
wireless) to a 3D printer with cheap colored resin balls so you
can have an instant model of... well, whatever you take a
picture of. So instant cameras are a necessary part of the next
stage - remembering where we just were, to see where we're going
  in the next few years.
