Layered Pragmatics: This is a skill that is acquired after a
certain mastery of linguistics. Pragmatics encodes additional
meaning in an expression. For example, imagine someone has been
in the other room searching on-line for some time and enters the
room saying *treasure at the end of a rainbow*. The person is
encoding additional meaning that they were successful in finding
what they were searching for. Now in a creative work such as a
film screenplay, a writer can use pragmatics to target multiple
layers of demographics. For example, if you have ever watched
some animated children's films such as Shrek and other Disney
films, then you will notice that there is content in the film
that children are unable to understand, but at the same time,
adults can understand the content, often with appreciation. By
understanding layered pragmatics and how to create content with
layered pragmatics, we can be better creators than all those
  special chosen ones out there.

[7]Kenneth Udut I'm a fan of the concept - is it your own
naming/formulation of it? I think it's one of the strongest
powers of humor, especially those that cross age/demographic
lines. 12 people hear the same joke and 12 people hear 12
different jokes because more than 12 messages were encoded
within the joke. Takes a mastery of cultures and subcultures
to pull it together, where each person goes, "Haha - I see
what you did there!" but they all see something different!
