There has been a blurring of lines in the USA (I don't know
about other countries) lately between Science, Technology,
  Engineering and Mathematics.

Over the past few years, they've become lumped together into a
  'thing' called 'STEM' in education.

  The lines are getting blurry.

Engineering is not Science. It plays well with Science and
Science with Engineering, but they're distinct disciplines that
happen to have some nice correlations.

Mathematics is not Science. It correlates well to Physics, but
not so well to Biology, where UNIQUENESS of species is more
important than the reductionist tendencies implicit in the usage
  of statistical models.

It's not that mathematics isn't USED... that would be like
claiming that Science doesn't use words. Of course they do.

But if all we had were models and no math, it would work just
  fine.
