Attempts have been made; I don't know of successes. Then again,
  through systems of taxation _some of this_ is true, especially
  in areas of high taxation; taxes are automatic and take care of
  basic needs.

  But they still depend on individual contributions into the
  system as far as I know.

  For such a system to work, it would require income to be handled
  solely by the State. Would its citizens be satisfied? That's
  where it gets rough.

  Small scale levels happen; intentional communities of various
  kinds and such have done it; I use monasteries as a strong
  example of this type of thing as they're the most well known of
  the Epicurian friendship communities, which can include shared
  "family style" expenses.

  But on larger scales? I don't know. I'd like it to be possible,
  if that counts for something.
