Indeed. Most western education is based upon the

but a lot of statistics have taken over. For quite some time,
teaching to the "bell curve" (a hypothetical average student -
the student-equivilant of the "Reasonable Man") has been the
norm.
In fact, "teaching to the norm" is mixed in with "creating the
norm".
Yet, even people who manage to survive the process, which of
course isn't *all* bad... nevertheless can come out as wounded
soldiers from 12 years of battle or more, not able to fulfill
their potentials because much of it has been stripped off while
aggressively being shaped.
Take away people's uniquenesses and you end up with a more
manageable society but it limits growth potential.
*sigh* - I could rant about education for hours like this. I had
to come to the conclusion that "School sucks. School always
sucked. School WILL always suck" for each generation that goes
through it, in whatever part of the world they find themselves
in, in whatever culture.
I actually enjoyed most of school, but the parts that sucked
about it... REALLY sucked.
