I like the idea of "warp space itself". Takes away the 'need for
  speed". Kinda like bunching up a throw rug and stepping right
  over it rather than walking across a spread out flat rug.
  tighten up space in front of you, spread out space behind you,
  and you travel in comfort in a warp bubble. We'd probably die of
  radiation poisoning within seconds - that'll be the first safety
  "outerspace OSHA" thing to tackle. "
