It's important to be friends with people outside your immediate
  friends and family. Why? Because opportunities come from people
  you are Weakly Connected to - a friend of a friend of a friend,
  the Great Uncle you never met and don't know much about. The
  reason? People you know tend to be in a similar economic state,
  have similar interests and values. The opportunities (jobs,
  relationships, etc) are more limited if you focus only on the
  people you already know.

  So don't be afraid to add someone you don't know to one of your
  circles: Move outside your comfort zone. You will learn more and
