There's definitely a redistribution of wealth happening.
Companies aren't the safe havens they once seemed to be: the
prosperity of the 1950s-recently seems like it might have been a
short "blip" on the radar, a lucky one to be living in. A lot of
positive futurist idealism comes from areas of relative wealth
in the country that can be blind to the relative poverty not so
far away. All that being said, "I'd rather be homeless in the US
than a king elsewhere" does hold some truth to it as well and
points towards a need towards a global economy as well. So, I
dunno. These are complicated things.
