I always got along better with people older than me and younger
  than me, but people who were in my "peer" range not quite so
  much. I was like then when I was a kid, a teenager, adult,
  middle age now (44). I guess when it's in the peer range there's
  a sense of competition, but when it's outside of the peer range,
  there's not.
