I hope it is ok, but I would like to continue
processing-as-pages until the collection is completed as a first
phase, but at a lower processing priority (in order to not
overtax the servers):Here is the issue I'm hoping to be able to
resolve with the assistance of the IA capabilities:
Each of these Vines contains a single idea - a short "video
page" or in effect, an index card.* It's possible that not all
are relevant: I don't know yet.
But what do you do when you have 14,000 index cards that are all
a jumble?* It is the output of 2.5 years.
Well, if they were physical index cards, you would lay them out
on a table and begin sorting, stacking, connecting.
As I went along, I would tag (using hashtags) to build up a
future set of metadata that would ease the process of
organization, but where can I find a table big enough to be able
to work with 30 months at an average of 15 "videos index cards"
per day?
I knew I'd have to tackle this task eventually, but I had no
idea where or how as I went along.
My hope is to be able to this:
a) have all of the videos laid out in front of me, indexed by
whatever subjects I decided at the time of making them to be
relevant:
This would require all of them to be distinct entities, each
with its own metadata intact on separate pages at first.
b) Begin a process of discovering patterns, based upon metadata
patterns and also with manual analysis.
c) As each pattern is discovered, begin to move the separate
pages into video "books" where like-categories (which may or may
not already be reflected in the current metadata - I don't know
yet) - which will result in a MUCH smaller set of pages, each
with a set of videos.
d) at the end of the process, provide you with a list of pages
for deletion, as the video files will then be collected into
their proper future (as yet unknown) categories pages.
I know this kind of open, exposed process is simply awful from
an SEO perspective while it is going on, but I've been
struggling with doing this on my own computer and my own
websites with the limitations of space and processing abilities.
At the end of it all, everything *should* be nice and neat and
tidy, but were this a physical library, I'd be the nutty guy
with two library tables pulled together with large amounts of
index cards, stacking cards and putting binder clips around them
every day, as patrons look on with suspicion, noisily typing
away at a laptop or typewriter, every day for weeks.
I know it's unorthodox, using the IA's resources to help
"organize my thoughts" (2.5 yrs worth), but it seems like a
powerful enough system to be able to handle the task and at the
end, if I upload at a pace that is respectful of the resource
allocation, and at the end of my project, send you a list of IDs
to then delete, the final result will hopefully be something
worth keeping for the future, for whatever little contribution I
might be bringing to it via these efforts.
Let me know if this is acceptable.* The metadata processing, the
space and the ease of use and the non-corporate nature of the IA
were all factors in deciding to embark on this project with the
assistance of your resources.
But if this is a misuse of the archive (as a sorting/cataloging
tool for future bindng, which will remain on the IA), let me
know and I'll continue trying to figure out how to do this on my
own and only upload a final product if I can manage to pull it
together.
It's just hard to find the space to lay everything out to work
on this. Conceptual categorization is something I can do easily
for others, but I have cognitive difficulty doing it for my self
unless I see everything laid out in front of me, and the IA
seems like an ideal workspace at least from a user's
perspective.* [I know the back-end of things is a much different
matter]
Thanks for taking the time to read this, Jeff.* If I can get the
go-ahead, I'll try to be as quiet as a mouse on server resources
(and yours) until I make the request (whenever I've completed it
- I expect a few weeks) for a large deletion of specific pages.
Horrible for SEO, I know but I haven't been able to comprehend
Google since they started favoring commercial about 2.5/3 yrs
ago in any case.

My current non-video effort is on [1]
http://icopiedyou.com -
closest I could get to a "thought collector" and be able to
"google my own brain", but as the Vines are each a "complete
thought" [6 seconds], I'm _hopeful_ that once I get them
organized properly, I'll have a better notion of my own thinking
patterns and categories-of-thought.* At present, the best I can
do is collect loose pages of thoughts by date/time.* It's like
being a library that got hit by a bomb, the pages are scattered
and the numbers burned off, and I'm picking up the loose pages
flying in the wind trying to figure out what parts of the
library these pages go into (categories) and then organizing
them into books for proper reading.
So, yeah, hence my enthusiasm at finding a tool to assist in the
task.* :)
