I "suffer from" empathy in excess, ever since I can recall. So I
find I have spent a lot of time inhibiting it when necessary,
which is most of the time. I believe sympathy and compassion can
be learned but empathy is a little trickier. I think all humans
feel some form of empathy - even if it's relating to a character
in a favorite movie - but I'm biased: It's hard to imagine
someone not having it in some form, even if it's not empathy of
people.
