Oh no offense was intended, Andrei. I actually have a good
opinion of monastic life; I had considered it at one time,
although I'm not religious now. But the monasteries I visited
were more worldly, with Internet (this was the late 1990s) and
computers and allowed visitors and contact. I have a good
opinion about both academic life and monastic life as long as
the person going through it is happy with it.
