yes they do. You're working with the vaudville / sitcom view of
  women - the same one that has men as drooling idiots. You have
  to listen past the words to what's really happening. Do you know
  the thought processes that go on in your head that you don't
  vocalize? Some women (some men too) vocalize them. If you're a
  good friend, you stay with them through the process, supportive
  - not jumping in to fix but just listening and being supportive.
  It's important that someone who works that way be allowed to
  come up with their own conclusion, not interfered with. It's
  because people who work that way usually are thinking, "long
  term". It's not about this conversation or this situation.
  Imagine evaluating your entire life at each moment of each day.
  Taking nothing for granted. Each decision you make can lead you
  down one path, or two paths, or 20 paths, and it's up to you to
  mathematically figure out the end-points at each decision. It's
  a lot of work, a lot of brainpower and it's not simple. It's a
  different way of thinking than, "here, in this moment, start
  middle done" in short time periods.
