I believe it's a mistake to consider life a noun. It doesn't
  have an abstractly, delineated existence that is fixed and
  frozen like a set of words, not even these. Rather more akin to
  a verb - living - an active process, a system that exists as it
  functions and ceases when it is fixed like a butterfly ceases
  being a butterfly once it is pinned to the biologists corkboard
  and no longer butterflies its butterfly-ness, not that
  butterfly-ness is a quality that can be captured like a scent in
  a bottle but only such in the way that it is experienced by a
