Oh dear - I stumbled upon

  topics. I never actually read the Wikipedia page on analogy even
  though I love analogy and metaphor. Considering that many
  physical systems are nearly perfect (but not quite) analogues of
  each other, if you learn one, you've learned the 'gist' of all
  of them.... and the same is true for analogies in general. Good
  analogies can unlock doors (there's an analogy/metaphor) to MANY
  different ideas. Oh dear... I gotta be careful or I'll be
  clicking off from that page and coming back to it all day long
  if I could smile emoticon
