Fighting is for power. All the other stuff is used as
  excuses-for-the-power. Religions have been around from the dawn
  of mankind. There's no reason they won't continue forever in
  some form, even if we change its name. I'd love a Star Trek
  Utopia but I don't think it's likely without some REALLY GOOD
  diplomacy. With diplomacy, religion doesn't matter because
  civility will rule. Civility is as basic as anything. Religions
  will happily continue doing the religious things. Politicians
  will continue their rises to power and their falls from grace.
  But it's civility that keeps us a strong planet; accepting
  disagreements with an underlying respect for the common
  humanity. This idea is one of the threads that's tucked away
  within many religions; this respect for others. Nothing wrong
  with one group thinking they're better. But an underlying
  respect for the fellow humanness within is what keeps things
  stable imo. Of course I could be naive too smile emoticon
