That's what was great about the story. It was a nice tale of the
role of faith in even the most Scientific minds that's just as
powerful as the role of faith in Religion. Our society has moved
away from that somewhat: the Carl Sagan agnosticism has given
way to the hard categories of today. But I was glad to have been
raised with the gentle hopeful humanism stuff.Well, I don't
worry terribly. It's not a world war and even if it were, enough
humanity will make it for us to be ok. I live 5 miles north of
the everglades in florida, so I'll probably never see combat or
fighting or whatever. Most places in the world won't be affected
by the shit we hear in the news. == it's one of my all time
favorite movies. Corny? Yup. The wooden religious figures?
Awful. The Pure Scientist heroine? Ridiculous! But I loved it.
The meeting of dad was the best. Gets me choked up every time.
Marvelous stuff. == I fell for it hook, line and sinker as a
kid. I was an A #1 Logical Positivist Star Trek fan,
  Science-Will-Lead-us-Into-A-Better-Tomorrow-Guaranteed kinda
kid. Grew out of it, but I believed it for a long time smile

"Blind faith" - literally. Marvelous. == My religious exposure
was positive and more humanist and psychology than anything. Got
me interested in psychology actually. Took some classes to be a
child psychologist (because the professor who taught quantum
mechanics was on sabattical - and this is no joke) but ran out
of money so never finished. Still, the child psych courses were
very useful. It's hard for me NOT to see humanity as overgrown
children. Adulthood seems to be mostly mythological honestly
