  I do smile emoticon Yeah, numbers are metaphors. They're
  agnostic (in the "i don't know" sense) about what they
  represent... two apples? Don't care. Two pears? Don't care. All
  treated the same. Flip it up though and really, it *is* rather
  important what the numbers represent. They're metaphors for a
  'something'. Are we talking about people? Or grains of sand?
  Makes a big difference between them: people aren't grains of
  sand, even if numbers METAPHORICALLY treat them the same.
