I like your take on reflection without integration: I was
  thinking more in terms of somebody who did not see themselves as
  others see them but in more of a pitiful manner: For example,
  someone who has extreme cognitive dissonance when they look at
  the person in the mirror and cannot believe how old the person
  staring back is.. or how they've changed: the battle between
  inner mental image and outer reality and ultimately, losing the
  battle with reality, preferring the inner mental image instead.
