Agreed. The sides talk past each other constantly, each making
valid points but they miss the other's arguments. Laws decide,
"At [x] point, it's a growth. At [y] point, it's murder." Where
that point was, is, and will be subject to ongoing debate and
will likely shift and change over time. Medically, we're
surprisingly backwards in our attitudes. I'll give an example:
Up until 1984, it was ok to perform operations on babies up to a
certain age WITHOUT pain medication because it was believed by
the medical establishment in the USA that babies don't feel
pain. We ACTUALLY believed that. 1984. Not that long ago.
Parents knew better. In fact, pretty much EVERYBODY knew better.
But because of some clever use of logic, the medical
establishment was able to believe something different. Oh well.
It's just one of those issues I suppose.
