I'll provide an example of "apparent change of view" that's
really a series of substitutions using myself, rather than the
"strict Roman Catholic substitutes strict Atheism but really not
fundamentally changing". [or more commonly, Southern Baptist
changes to New Atheist - I see that more commonly] I was raised
Methodist. An easy, be good, do good, pay attention, be happy
way of looking at things. My grandmother was into new age-y
stuff. Influenced me. An easy do good/be good stuff. I was in
boy scouts. Do good, be good, pay attention, be happy. Went
religion hopping. Baha'i. Do good, be good. Unitarian
Universalist. Do good, be good. Quaker. Same. Vipasanna
Meditation. Same with some exercises to do. Eastern Orthodox.
Same, with more stuff to do, deeper in the exercises and mental
thought / experience stuff. Intertwined with some of my
theoretical physics way of thinking. But even with all of that,
"do good, be good, pay attention" was main focus. Same idea.
Osho. Do good, be good, pay attention, be happy. Agnostic since,
i dunno, 12-15 years now? My attitude: Be good, do good, pay
attention, be happy. For all the metaphorical robes and hats I
put on, for all the research and study that I did, my beliefs
never changed any. What's important is Be good, do good, pay
attention, be happy. I kept substituting one for another. I
  never changed.
